Groundhog Landscaping & Lawn Care, Inc. — known locally as GHL — is a family-owned, full-service outdoor company based at 9210 County Rd, Clarence Center, NY 14032. Owner Robert Miller founded the business in 2000, starting out of his parents’ garage while working his way through college in Buffalo. Today, more than 25 years later, GHL operates a multi-truck design-build and maintenance operation serving residential homeowners and commercial property managers across Western New York.
Robert grew up in Buffalo with a passion for plants, lawns, and the way a well-kept property changes how a home feels. What began as a one-mower lawn care route grew into a multi-crew company offering full landscape design and installation, paver hardscapes, retaining walls, poolscapes, outdoor kitchens, specialty concrete, landscape lighting, and a winter snow plowing operation. Through every expansion we’ve held the same philosophy: “Preparing you for Company!” — your property should look ready for guests every day, not just the day we finish a project.

GHL was founded in 2000 in Buffalo, NY. As of 2026, we are in our 25th+ year of continuous operation, making us one of the longer-running family-owned landscaping companies in the Clarence and Amherst area.
Our main facility is at 9210 County Rd, Clarence Center, NY 14032, just east of Amherst and Williamsville. From that location our crews can reach most of Erie and Niagara County, NY within a comfortable drive.
GHL operates with around 50 employees during the peak growing season, organised into specialised crews: design-build, hardscape, lawn maintenance, concrete, and winter snow operations. Crew sizes scale up in spring and down through fall, with a smaller dedicated snow team running through the winter.
Yes. GHL is a Belgard Authorized Contractor, an ICPI (Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute) member, NCMA-affiliated for retaining wall installation, and a Techniseal partner for paver jointing and sealing. Those credentials are why our hardscape installations qualify for manufacturer warranties.
It’s our company slogan and an internal standard: a property should look guest-ready every day, not only on the day we finish a project. It informs how we plan plantings (year-round visual interest), how we maintain edges and mulch lines, and how we time fertilisation and pruning so the lawn looks its best across the whole season.
