Western New York’s peak growing season runs from June through August — the months when beds, lawns, and hardscapes get the heaviest use and need the most consistent care. Groundhog Landscaping’s summer services keep properties in Buffalo, Clarence, Amherst, Williamsville, East Amherst, Hamburg, and Orchard Park looking sharp from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day and beyond.
Buffalo summers swing between humid heat waves and stretches of cool wet weather. Both conditions stress turf and accelerate weed pressure. Without mid-season attention, a beautiful spring cleanup quickly turns into a weedy, leggy garden by mid-July. Consistent summer visits keep the lawn at a healthy height, the beds defined, and the hardscape clean.
Mid-season questions Buffalo-area homeowners ask about lawn and bed care.
For most Buffalo-area properties, every 2–4 weeks during peak summer is enough to stay ahead of weed pressure. Properties with newer mulch and pre-emergent applied in spring can sometimes stretch longer.
If you have irrigation: water deeply and infrequently — about 1 inch per week total, split into 2 sessions, early morning. If you don’t: cool-season grasses in Buffalo will go dormant (brown but not dead) during dry stretches and bounce back when rain returns. Both approaches work; the worst option is shallow daily watering.
The most effective window in Western New York is late June through mid-July, when Japanese beetle larvae are small and near the surface. Treatment after September has limited effectiveness because grubs have moved deeper. We’ll schedule it correctly if you add it to your program.
Yes. Pre-event cleanups (graduations, weddings, family reunions, big BBQs) are common for us through the summer. Best to book 2–3 weeks ahead so we can fit it into the route.
Yes. We offer paver sealing as a summer service — usually paired with a polymeric joint sand refresh. Sealing protects against stains, deepens color, and helps joints resist weed growth. Recommended every few years.
